Das Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics (KITP) ist ein Institut der University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB).

Es ist eines der bekanntesten Institute für Theoretische Physik weltweit, speziell im Bereich der Hochenergiephysik. Es wurde 1979 von dem Nobelpreisträger Walter Kohn gegründet. Geleitet wird es zur Zeit (2005) von David Gross (Nobelpreis 2004).

Anfang des neuen Jahrtausends wurde das Institut, das bis dahin nur als das Physikinstitut der UCSB oder als ITP (Institute for Theoretical Physics) bekannt war, nach dem norwegisch/US-amerikanischen Physiker und Geschäftsmann Fred Kavli, in Anerkennung seiner großzügigen Spenden an die UCSB, benannt.
