Killinochchi (கிளிநொச்சி) ist eine kleine Stadt im Distrikt Kilinochchi in der Nordprovinz von Sri Lanka. Sie hat etwa 130.000 Einwohner (2001).

Kilinochchi liegt an der Hauptstraße A9 und liegt einige 100 km südöstlich von Jaffna. Bekannt ist diese kleine Stadt da sich dort bis Januar 2009 der Verwaltungssitz der LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) befindet. Sie war de facto die Hauptstadt der von ihr kontrollierten Gebiete (siehe Tamil Eelam). Die LTTE kämpft gegen die Zentralregierung für einen eigenen tamilischen Staat im Norden und Osten Sri Lankas. Beanspruchte Hauptstadt für diesen Staat ist Trincomalee, die sich jedoch unter Kontrolle der Regierung befindet.

Wie Präsident Mahinda Rajapaksa bekannt gab, hat die Armee Sri Lankas die LTTE-Hochburg Kilinochchi im Norden von Sri Lanka nach einer Offensive am 2. Januar 2009 eingenommen. Er sprach von einem „historischen Sieg“ im Bürgerkrieg in Sri Lanka gegen die LTTE-Rebellen. [1][2]
