Anna Creek Station

Anna Creek Station ist die größte Rinderfarm der Welt. Sie liegt im australischen Bundesstaat South Australia, umfasst 23.677 km² (das entspricht fast genau der Fläche Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns) und ist damit mehr als elfmal so groß wie die größte Farm der USA.

Ursprünglich im Jahre 1863 als Schaffarm gegründet, wurde kurze Zeit später der Betrieb auf Rinderzucht umgestellt, da sich diese Tiere als resistenter gegen Angriffe von Dingos erwiesen. Eigentümer ist die S. Kidman & Co., ein Unternehmen, das auch noch andere Farmen besitzt. Anna Creek Station ist Sitz der zentralen Verwaltung aller Farmaktivitäten dieses Unternehmens.

Trotz der gigantischen Flächen beherbergt die Farm nur ca. 3.000 Rinder, was auf die harschen Bedingungen zurückzuführen ist. Auf der Farm arbeiten derzeit ca. 18 Personen, von denen drei auf einer Außenstelle beschäftigt sind.

Zur Farm gehören auch die Anna Creek Painted Hills, deren Existenz lange geheim gehalten wurde und die bis heute nicht betreten werden dürfen. Lediglich das Überfliegen ist erlaubt.
