<1 Einw./km²Hauptort Orcadas-Station Laurie Island ist mit einer Fläche von etwa 50 km²[1] die zweitgrößte Insel der südlichen Orkneyinseln, gelegen im Südlichen Ozean, also südlich des 60. Breitengrades.
Die dem Antarktisvertrag unterliegende Insel wird dennoch politisch sowohl von Argentinien als auch von Großbritannien beansprucht.
Auf der Insel wurde im Zuge einer Antarktisexpedition von 1903 unter der Leitung des Schotten William Speirs Bruce ein Gebäude (Odmont House) errichtet, welches später von Argentiniern in "Orcadas" umbenannt wurde. Heute sind die einzigen Bewohner der Insel die Besatzungsmitglieder der vom argentinischen Militär unterhaltenen Orcadas-Station, die eine Stammbesatzung von 17 im antarktischen Winter (Oktober 2010) hat (Sommer 45).
