London Straits Convention

Der Dardanellen-Vertrag wurde am 13. Juli 1841 zwischen den fünf europäischen Großmächten Russland, Großbritannien, Frankreich, Österreich und Preußen sowie dem Osmanischen Reich geschlossen.

Vorgeschichte

1807 wurde eine Durchfahrt durch die Dardanellen von dem englischen Admiral Duckworth mit acht Linienschiffen, vier Fregatten nebst mehreren Brandern und Bombardierbooten ohne Verlust bewerkstelligt, in deren Folge am 20. Februar zum erstenmal eine feindliche Flotte vor Konstantinopel erschien.

Schon früher und dann in dem 1809 zwischen England und der Hohen Pforte abgeschlossenen Friedensvertrag hatte erstere Macht in die Forderung der Pforte, dass kein nichttürkisches Kriegsschiff in die Dardanellenstraße und in den Bosporus einlaufen dürfe, eingewilligt. In einem geheimen Zusatzprotokoll zum Vertrag von Hünkâr İskelesi hatte sich Russland 1833 zusichern lassen, dass im Kriegsfall die Meerengen für alle außer russischen Schiffen gesperrt würden. Dies hatte das Misstrauen anderer Großmächte, besonders Großbritanniens und Frankreichs erregt und zu Spannungen mit Russland geführt.

Der Vertrag

Am 13. Juli 1841 unterzeichneten die Vertragspartner in London den Vertrag und legten fest, dass außer den Schiffen der türkischen Flotte und im Kriegsfall denen der Verbündeten des Sultans kein Kriegsschiff in die Dardanellen einlaufen dürfe. Für nicht-türkische, insbesondere russische Schiffe war die Meerenge gesperrt.

Beim Beginn des Krimkrieges ankerte die englisch-französische Flotte im Juni 1853 im Süden von Kum Kale in der Besikabai, von wo sie Ende Oktober in die Dardanellenstraße einlief und 3. November in der Beikosbai Anker warf. Im ersten Anhang zu den Pariser Friedensartikeln von 1856 wurde der Vertrag von 1841 der Hauptsache nach bestätigt.
