Nain Singh (sanskrit: नैन सिंह) († 1. Februar 1882 in Moradabad) war ein indischer Pandit im 19. Jahrhundert, der das Himalaya-Hochland für Großbritannien vermaß und kartografierte. Insbesondere ist er bekannt für das erste Kartenmaterial Tibets, eine genaue Bestimmung der Lage und Seehöhe Lhasas sowie die kartografische Bestimmung des Laufes des Brahmaputra.

1865 verließ er im Auftrag der britischen Krone Dehradun, wo sich das nordindische Hauptquartier der Great Trigonometric Survey (eine Organisation mit dem Ziel der Vermessung Indiens) befand und begab sich nach Nepal. Singh war ein sogenannter Pandit, ein einheimischer Sachverständiger, der von den Briten ausgebildet wurde, um unbekannte Regionen zu kartografieren und so Großbritannien einen Vorteil beim "Great Game", dem Rennen um die Vorherrschaft in Zentralasien, zu verschaffen.

Schließlich gelangte Singh nach Lhasa, wo er den Panchen Lama traf. Obwohl seine wahre Identität von zwei kaschmirischen Kaufleuten aufgedeckt wurde, verrieten diese ihn aus ungeklärten Gründen nicht der lokalen Obrigkeit; Singh konnte seine Forschungsreise unbehelligt fortsetzen. Über den See Manasarovar in Westtibet kehrte Singh wieder nach Indien zurück.

Bei seiner zweiten Reise, 1867, kam Singh erneut nach Westtibet und besuchte die legendären Goldminen von Thok-Jalung. Dabei fiel Singh auf, dass die Goldgräber nur in erdnahen Schichten nach Gold gruben, da sie glaubten, dass es ein Verbrechen der Erde gegenüber wäre, noch tiefer zu graben, und dass tieferes Graben die Erde ihrer Ergiebigkeit berauben würde.

Von 1873 bis 1875 begab er sich von Leh im Kaschmir erneut nach Lhasa und wählte diesmal eine nördlichere Route.
