Das North Island Volcanic Plateau (auch bekannt als Zentrale Hochebene oder Waimarino Hochebene) befindet sich im Zentrum der Nordinsel (Neuseeland) von Neuseeland. Es befindet sich im Süden des Supervulkans, Tauposee, und verläuft südlich über die Vulkane Tongariro, Ngauruhoe, bis hinter den Ruapehu.
Im Westen dieser drei Vulkane liegt ein raues bewaldetes Hügelland. Im Osten hingegen ist die Landschaft ganz anders. Der unfruchtbare und aschebeladene Boden der Region und das raue alpine Klima machen das Land unprofitabel. Diese Zone wird als Rangipo-Wüste bezeichnet.
Die gesamte Region, die durch die Städte Tahipe im Süden, Okahune im Westen und Taupo im Norden, sowie durch die Kaweka Ranges im Osten abgegrenzt ist, befindet sich mehr als 800 Meter über dem Meeresspiegel.
Der Großteil der Bevölkerung lebt direkt am Tauposee, bis auf ein paar kleine Siedlungen, die sich im Osten der Vulkane befinden. Das Leben in dieser Region ermöglicht ihnen der Tourismus, wie z. B. die Ski-Fahrer im Winter.
Die Rangipo-Region ist so gut wie unbewohnt. Sie wird durch die neuseeländische Armee genutzt.
