The Gillette Company ist ein multinationales Unternehmen mit Sitz in Boston, Massachusetts.

Die an der New Yorker Börse gehandelte Aktiengesellschaft produziert Rasierapparate (Markenname: Gillette), elektrische Geräte (Markenname: Braun), Zahnpflegeprodukte (Markenname: Oral-B) und Batterien (Markennamen: Duracell, Daimon).

Im Bereich von Rasierzubehör ist das Unternehmen Weltmarktführer. Der größte Marktkonkurrent ist Wilkinson Sword. Gillette, das 2004 nach Schätzungen einen Umsatz von 10,3 Milliarden US-Dollar und dabei einen Gewinn von 2,3 Milliarden US-Dollar erwirtschaftet hat, beschäftigte im selben Zeitraum weltweit etwa 29.000 Mitarbeiter.

Geschichte

Das Unternehmen wurde 1901 von King C. Gillette gegründet. Zuerst beschränkte sich der Betrieb auf die Herstellung von Rasierhobeln und Rasierklingen.

Am 28. Januar 2005 kündigte der Konsumgüterproduzent Procter & Gamble an, das Unternehmen für 57 Milliarden US-Dollar kaufen zu wollen. Die US-amerikanische Wettbewerbsbehörde FTC stimmte der Übernahme am 30. September 2005 zu. Seit dem 1. Oktober 2005 gehört die Gillette Company damit zu Procter & Gamble, die damit nach dem Nahrungsmittelkonzern Nestlé zweitgrößter Produzent von Konsumgütern weltweit wurden.

Die Verwaltungs- und Produktionsstätten der Gillette Deutschland GmbH, vormals Gillette Roth-Büchner GmbH und ursprünglich Otto Roth Specialfabrik für Rasier-Apparate, Rasierklingen, Abziehmaschinen, befinden sich in Berlin-Tempelhof an der Oberlandstraße (Kurzbeschreibung und Bilder siehe dort).
