Paper Lace

Paper Lace war eine britische Pop-Band der 70er Jahre.

Gegründet wurde die Gruppe 1969 in Nottingham. Ihr erster Erfolg in England wurde 1974 Billy Don't Be A Hero, ein Song, der in Amerika von der Band Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods veröffentlicht wurde und dort ebenfalls Spitzenreiter war. Im gleichen Jahr wurde mit The Night Chicago Died ein fast ebenso erfolgreicher Hit nachgereicht, der in den USA sogar auf Platz 1 kam. Was dann folgte, waren nur noch kleinere Hits.

1978 gelang der Gruppe noch ein kleiner erwähnenswerter Achtungserfolg: Sie sangen gemeinsam mit dem Fußballverein Nottingham Forest die Hymne We've Got The Whole World In Our Hands.

Kurz danach benannte sich die Band von Paper Lace um in Lace - und geriet in Vergessenheit.

Heiner Müller verarbeitete 1995 den Song in seiner Inszenierung von Brechts Aturo Ui, mit Martin Wuttke in der Hauptrolle am Berliner Ensemble als Hintergrundmusik.
