Qalam

Der Qalam (Aussprache: [ˈqɒlam] – Herkunft: persisch, arabisch: ‏قلم‎, DMG qalam; griechisch: καλαμος; lateinisch: calamus = Rohr), das Schreibrohr oder die Rohrfeder, ist das wichtigstes Schreibgerät der arabischen und der hebräischen Schrift und deren Kalligraphie. Diese Rohrfeder wird in der Regel schräg geschnitten, damit durch das Variieren des Winkels der Hand und des Armes unterschiedlich dicke und dünne Linien geschrieben werden können.

Die Rohrfeder gilt im Islam als edelstes der Schreibgeräte. Die Erwähnung des Schreibrohrs im Koran geschieht an zentraler Stelle. Die Offenbarung des Korans durch den Engel Gabriel an Mohammed beginnt in der 96. Sure mit folgenden Zeilen:

„Trag vor! Dein Herr ist edelmütig wie niemand auf der Welt, er, der den Gebrauch des Schreibrohrs gelehrt hat.“
