Satyananda

Satyananda (* 1923 in Almora, Indien; † 5. Dezember 2009 in Rikhia, Jharkhand[1]), von seinen Anhängern mit dem spirituellen Ehrentitel Paramahamsa und Saraswati bezeichnet, war ein Yoga-Meister. Er verbrachte mehr als 50 Jahre damit, yogische Techniken auszuprobieren und den Menschen von heute zugänglich zu machen.

1956 rief er die „International Yoga Fellowship Movement“ (IYFM) ins Leben und gründete 1963 die Bihar School of Yoga (BSY), um mehr Menschen auf ihrem spirituellen Weg helfen zu können. Seine Lehre verbreitete sich schon bald in der ganzen Welt. Die BSY hat über 80 Bücher mit seiner Lehre veröffentlicht. Das Buch "Asana Pranayama Mudra Bandha" von Satyananda bildet die Grundlage vieler Yoga-Kurse und Yoga-Lehrer-Ausbildungsgänge in Deutschland.

1988 löste sich Satyananda von allen organisatorischen Verpflichtungen. Sein Nachfolger Niranjananda führt seitdem die Geschäfte der Satyananda-Tradition. Satyananda Yoga wird in Deutschland vor allem durch das Satyananda-Yoga-Zentrum in Köln unter der Leitung von Prakashananda vertreten.
