Segregation of Duties

Funktionstrennung bedeutet, das bestimmte Aufgaben eines Geschäftsprozesses nicht durch ein und dieselbe Person oder Organisationseinheit durchgeführt werden sollen. Der Begriff wird im Bereich der Funktionalen Organisation und der Informatik genutzt.

Organisationsstruktur

Während es beim Vier-Augen-Prinzip darum geht, Fehler und Manipulationen einzelnen Personen zu verhindern, dient die Funktionstrennung bei der Festlegung der Organisationsstruktur dazu, verschiedene Funktionen und Verantwortungen sauber zu trennen. Hierdurch trägt der Aufbau der Organisation dazu bei, Fehler zu vermeiden und sachgerechte Entscheidungen zu treffen.

So regeln die Mindestanforderungen an das Risikomanagement für Kreditinstitute, dass die Kreditentscheidungen nicht durch den Vertrieb ("Markt") alleine getroffen werden dürfen, sondern dass die Marktfolge am Kreditentscheidungsprozess mitwirken muss.

Im Bereich der Staatsorganisation verfolgt das Prinzip der Gewaltenteilung vergleichbares.

IT

In der IT wird Funktionstrennung im Kontext der Benutzerrechteverwaltung verwendet. Unterschiedliche technische Funktionen sind unterschiedlichen Rollen zugeordnet. Dies dient dazu, Kriminelle Handlungen der Mitarbeiter zu vermeiden. Wenn zum Beispiel ein Mitarbeiter Lieferanten im IT-System pflegen und anlegen kann und gleichzeitig Zahlungen initiieren kann, so hätte dieser die Möglichkeit, Finanzmittel zu unterschlagen (z. B. fiktive Lieferanten anlegen und Zahlung an diesen durchführen).
