Short Rate

Im Zusammenhang mit Zinsderivaten bezeichnet die Short Rate oder Momentanzins den Zinssatz einer sicheren Anlage (Geldmarktkonto) für einen infinitesimal (unendlich) kleinen Zeitraum. Im Gegensatz zum Kassazins stellt die Short Rate somit einen stetigen Zinssatz dar und ist folglich ein theoretisches Konstrukt, welches am Kapitalmarkt nicht beobachtet werden kann. Ihre Berechtigung erfährt sie jedoch bei den so genannten Short-Rate-Modellen, wo versucht wird, die zukünftige Entwicklung der Zinsstruktur mit Hilfe der Short Rate zu beschreiben.

Das Geldmarktkonto

Das Geldmarkt- oder auch Bankkonto ist als rollierende Anlage definiert, d.h. im Zeitpunkt t = 0 wird eine Geldeinheit investiert, die nach Ablauf von dt immer wieder neu zur aktuellen Short Rate rt angelegt wird. Das Geldmarktkonto Bt ist also erklärt durch

B0 = 1,

dBt = rtBtdt;

bzw. äquivalent B_t= \exp \left\lbrace \int\limits_{0}^{t} r_u \mathrm{d}u\right\rbrace.

Insofern kann im Zeitpunkt t das Geldmarktkonto Bt als Akkumulations- oder Aufzinsungsfaktor für eine Zahlung im Zeitpunkt 0 gesehen werden.

Von besonderer Bedeutung ist das Geldmarktkonto im Rahmen der risikoneutralen Bewertung, bei der das Geldmarktkonto als Numéraire verwendet wird.
