Die Texas International Airlines war eine US-amerikanische Fluggesellschaft. Die Fluggesellschaft wurde 1947 als „Aviation Enterprises and commencing Scheduled Service“ gegründet. Am 31. Oktober 1968 erfolgte die Umbenennung in Texas International Airlines mit Sitz in Houston, Texas. War die TIA vorerst in Texas und deren Umgebung tätig, weitete sich das Streckennetz jetzt auf Städte in Kalifornien, Louisiana, Tennessee, New Mexiko und Mississippi aus.

1980 kaufte Texas Air Corporation die Airline auf und fing Anfang 1981 an, Aktien von Continental Airlines zu erwerben. Schon nach sechs Monaten besaß sie die Aktienmehrheit, sodass sie Einfluss auf deren Streckennetz und Flugpläne nahm. Am 31. Oktober 1982 fusionierten beide Gesellschaften und flogen weiter unter den Namen Continental Airlines.

Zwischenfälle

  • Am 27. September 1973 verunglückte Texas-Airlines-Flug 655 auf dem Flug von El Dorado nach Texarkana. Es handelte sich um einen gesteuerten Flug in den Black Fork Mountain, der zu den Ouachita Mountains in Arizona gehört. Die dreiköpfige Besatzung und die acht Fluggäste wurden dabei getötet.[1]
