The Daily Observer

The Daily Observer ist eine private Zeitung im westafrikanischen Staat Gambia. Sie gilt als unabhängig, dennoch wird sie als regierungsnah eingestuft. Es erscheinen fünf Ausgaben in der Woche, die Ausgabe am Freitag nennt sich "Weekend Observer". Sitz der Zeitung ist in Bakau.

Die Zeitung wurde von Kenneth Y. Best 1990 gegründet, nach dem Best in den Wirren des Liberianischen Bürgerkrieges aus Liberia geflüchtet war. Bei dem Militärputsch in Gambia berichtete er zunächst kritisch und wurde durch die Militärjunta nach Liberia deportiert, von wo er in die Vereinigten Staaten ging.[1]

Geschäftsführer ist Saja Taal. Er hatte damals, 2005, Momodou Sanyang als Nachfolger ersetzt.[2][3]
