Die Thousand Islands (dt. „Tausend Inseln“) liegen am Abfluss des Ontariosees in der Grenzregion zwischen Kanada und den USA an den Anfängen des Sankt-Lorenz-Stroms. Die Inselgruppe besteht aus 1793 Inseln, wobei Wolfe Island die mit Abstand größte ist und Insel Nr. 15 die kleinste. 21 dieser Inseln bilden den St.-Lawrence-Islands-Nationalpark, den kleinsten Nationalpark Kanadas. Seit 2002 ist die Gegend ein UNESCO-Biosphärenreservat.

Die amerikanische Salatsauce „Thousand-Island-Dressing“ verdankt ihren Namen der Region, in der sie wahrscheinlich auch erfunden wurde und hat den Namen der Thousand Islands, die außerhalb Nordamerikas sonst wenig bekannt sind, in die Welt getragen.

Ein guter Ausgangspunkt zur Erkundung ist Kingston, von wo aus viele Fähren und Ausflugsboote in die Umgebung verkehren.

An der Thousand Islands site fanden sich Überreste der Adena-Kultur.

Die zahlreichen Forts und andere militärische Anlagen in der Region sind Zeugen der vielfältigen Auseinandersetzungen bei der europäischen Besiedlung des nordamerikanischen Kontinents, z. B. des Siebenjährigen Krieges. Als eine Folge davon liegen mehr als 400 Schiffswracks allein in unmittelbarer Nähe zu Kingston in den Tiefen des Ontariosees.

Die größte Touristenattraktion ist Boldt Castle auf Heart Island, das vom aus Preußen stammenden Hotelier George C. Boldt zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts im Stil einer mittelalterlichen Rheinburg erbaut wurde.

Im Sankt-Lorenz-Strom, etwa drei Kilometer nördlich von Alexandria Bay, befindet sich Deer Island, die der Geheimgesellschaft Skull & Bones gehört.
