Trochenbrod

Trachimbrod oder Trochenbrod war eine jüdische Siedlung in der heutigen Ukraine, damals Polen, ca. 30 km nordöstlich von Lutsk.

Geschichte

Trochenbrod wurde 1835 gegründet, und war ursprünglich eine Farmerkolonie, die zu einer kleinen Stadt heranwuchs. Die Bevölkerung wuchs von ca. 1200 (235 Familien) 1889 auf 1580 im Jahre 1897.

Als die Nazis die Ukraine besetzten, etablierten sie ein Ghetto in Trochenbrod. Die Bewohner des Ghettos wurden im August und September 1942 liquidiert. Nur ca. 200 Juden überlebten. Heute kann man an dieser Stelle nur noch Felder und einen Wald vorfinden.

Eine fiktionale Version des Ortes Trachimbrod hat der amerikanische Autor Jonathan Safran Foer in seinem Roman Alles ist erleuchtet entworfen.
