Die Kleinblütige Königskerze (Verbascum thapsus), auch Echte Königskerze, Marienkerze, Frauenkerze, Wollblume, Kleinblütiges Wollkraut, Himmelsbrand, Fackelkraut, Wetterkerze, Feldkerze, Brennkraut (englisch: Flannelleaf, Flannelplant, Great Mullein) ist eine Pflanze aus der Familie der Braunwurzgewächse (Scrophulariaceae).

Vorkommen und Pflanzenbeschreibung

Die zweijährige Staude wächst an sonnigen, steinigen, sowie mäßig trockenen Wegrändern, in Ruderalstellen (Kiesgruben, Schotterfluren), Waldschlägen, sowie Dämme und Ufer und erreicht Wuchshöhen von ca. 30 bis 200 Zentimetern. Die Pflanze ist ein Nitrifizierungsanzeiger.
Die Grundblätter sind sehr kurz und undeutlich gestielt. Die Blüten haben eine hellgelbe Farbe und haben ihre Blütezeit vom Juli bis September. Die Wollblume ist in Mittel- und Südeuropa sowie in Westasien heimisch.

Wichtige Inhaltsstoffe der Kleinblütige Königskerze sind Saponine, Schleimstoffe, Flavonoide, Zucker sowie gelbe Farbstoffe und ätherische Öle.

Phytotherapeutische Verwendung

Aus den Blättern oder Blüten kann ein Tee, Tinktur oder Sirup hergestellt werden, welche bei Reizhusten, Bronchitis oder Asthma eingesetzt werden kann, da die Inhaltsstoffe schleimlösend und auswurffördernd wirken. Des Weiteren wird das Abheilen von Hautwunden unterstützt.

In der Homöopathie verwendete Teile

Das Homöopathikum wird aus dem frischen Kraut ohne Stängel zu beginnender Blütezeit hergestellt. Das homöopathische Arzneimittel »Verbascum thapsus« wurde von Samuel Hahnemann als erster geprüft und wird bei Beschwerden wie z. B. Bronchitis, Heiserkeit und Trigeminusneuralgie verabreicht.

Volksglaube

Der frühere Volksglaube meinte, dass mit ihrer Hilfe der Wollblume eine Wettervorhersage für den kommenden Winter möglich sei: Locker besetzte Blütenstände sollten auf schneearme Perioden, kleine Blütenstände auf schneearme Winter, besonders lange Blütenstände mit dichtem Blütenbesatz auf lange, schneereiche Winter hinweisen.
