Die Anchor Bay ist eine Bucht im Norden der Insel Malta. In der Bucht wurde 1979 der Film Popeye – Der Seemann mit dem harten Schlag gedreht.

Geschichte der Bucht

Bis Ende der 1970er Jahre war Anchor Bay ein ruhiges und beschauliches Fleckchen, das höchstens einem kleinen Kreis von Tauchern und Einheimischen bekannt war.

Dann entstand hier die Kulissenstadt, die der Regisseur Robert Altman 1979 für den Popeye-Film als romantisches Piratendorf Sweethaven mit Holzhäusern und Plankenwegen errichten ließ. Es ist zum Freizeitpark umgebaut. Nach zwei Bränden wurde das Dorf jeweils wiedererrichtet.

Anchor Bay dient Tauchern als Einstieg in ein Unterwasserparadies.
