Karriere

Gleave alias Example studierte Filmregie an der Royal Holloway University, entschied sich dann aber doch für die Musik. Über die Jahre veröffentlichte er mehrere Singles und Mixtapes und war auch eine Zeit lang beim Label The Beats des Rappers The Streets unter Vertrag. Doch es dauerte bis 2007, bis er sein erstes Studioalbum mit dem Titel What We Made herausbrachte.

Seinen ersten größeren Erfolg hatte Example im Jahr 2009 mit der Single Watch the Sun Come Up. Damit kam er erstmals in die britischen Charts und landete sogar in den Top 20.

Am 12. Juni 2011 erreichte Example mit seiner Single Changed the Way You Kiss Me erstmals Platz eins der britischen Charts. Der Titel wurde daraufhin im September als Debüt-Single des Künstlers auch im deutschsprachigen Raum veröffentlicht. Sie erreichte dort die Charts und konnte in den deutschen Media Control Charts sogar bis auf Platz 8 steigen. Im September erschien in Großbritannien der Song Stay Awake als Vorabsingle zum zweiten Album Playing in the Shadows. Sowohl Single als auch Album stiegen auf Platz 1 der UK-Charts ein.
