Ezion-Geber (auch Ezjon-Geber, Ezeon-Geber, Vulgata: Aisongeber) war ein antiker Ort am Golf von Akaba unweit von Eilat gelegen. Er wird im Alten Testament verschiedentlich erwähnt. So soll Ezeon-Geber einer der ersten Orte gewesen sein, an dem die Israeliten nach dem Exodus ihr Lager aufschlugen. [1] Nach den Berichten im 1. Buch der Könige war der Ort Ausgangspunkt des Handels Salomos im Roten Meer.[2] Während der Königszeit ging die Hafenstadt an die Edomiter verloren[3]. Für die Zeit nach etwa 900 v. Chr. wird der Ort in den Quellen nicht mehr genannt. Der deutsche Forscher F. Frank identifizierte die Ruinen von Tell el-Kheleifeh mit dem biblischen Ezion-Geber. Bei den Ausgrabungen 1938 – 1940 durch Nelson Glueck wurden zwei Festungen aus der Königszeit und eine edomitische Siedlung aus der persischen Zeit freigelegt.[4]
