Ja'akov Herzog

Ja'akov Herzog (hebräisch ‏יעקב הרצוג‎ ; * 21. Dezember 1921 in Dublin, Irland; † 1972) war ein israelischer Diplomat.

Ja'akov Herzog wurde 1921 in Dublin als zweiter Sohn des Großrabbiners Isaak HaLevy Herzog geboren. Sein älterer Bruder war der spätere israelische Staatspräsident Chaim Herzog.

Im Jahr 1939 emigrierte er in das britische Mandatsgebiet Palästina und wurde dort Mitglied von Haganah. Herzog wurde am Harry Fischel Institute in Jerusalem zum Rabbiner ausgebildet. Danach studierte er Rechtswissenschaften an der Hebräischen Universität. An der University of Ottawa erhielt er einen Doktortitel in internationalem Recht.

Herzog fungierte 1956 während der Sueskrise als persönlicher Berater von Premierminister David Ben-Gurion. Des Weiteren gilt er als einer der Architekten der Beziehungen zwischen Israel und dem Vatikan. Nachdem Herzog von 1957 bis 1960 an der israelischen Botschaft in Washington, D.C. tätig gewesen war, wurde er zum israelischen Botschafter in Kanada ernannt. Dieses Amt bekleidete er von 1960[1] bis 1963.[2]
