Jagdalpur (Hindi जगदलपुर, Jagdalpur) ist eine Stadt im indischen Bundesstaat Chhattisgarh mit etwa 125.000 Einwohnern (Volkszählung 2011). Sie ist Verwaltungssitz des Distrikts Bastar und war früher die Hauptstadt des ehemaligen Fürstenstaates Bastar.

Die Stadt liegt am Fluss Indravati, einem Nebenfluss des Godavari.

Sehenswürdigkeiten

  • Der Chitrakot-Wasserfall am Indravati ist der breiteste Wasserfall Indiens und wird deshalb auch indischer Niagara genannt.
  • Der Danteshwari-Tempel liegt etwa 80 km von Jagdalpur und ist der Tempel von Danteshwari, einer lokalen Göttin, die als Inkarnation von Shakti verehrt wird.
  • Die Kailash- und Kotumsar-Höhlen sind Höhlen die rund 2 km tief sind. Sie liegen etwa 40 km von Jagdalpur entfernt.
  • Der Tiratgarh-Wasserfall liegt im Kanger-Ghati-Nationalpark, 35 km. südwestlich von Jagdalpur. Der stufenförmige Wasserfall hat eine Höhe von rund 91 m. Der Kanger-Ghati-Nationalpark liegt in der Nähe des Kholaba-Flusses. In diesem Park ist unter anderem das seltene Großkantschil zu sehen.
  • Der Bastar-Palast in Jagdalpur war der Sitz der Herrscher des Königreiches Bastar. Die königliche Familie von Bastar wohnt nach wie vor in diesem Palast.
