The Dynasty: Roc La Familia ist das fünfte Studioalbum des US-amerikanischen Rappers Jay-Z.^[1] Es wurde am 31. Oktober 2000 veröffentlicht. Die Single I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me), produziert von The Neptunes, war die erfolgreichste Auskopplung des Albums und erreichte Platz 11 der Billboard Hot 100. In den Billboard 200 Albumcharts debütierte das Album auf Platz 1 mit über 557.000 verkauften Exemplaren in der ersten Veröffentlichungswoche. Bis heute wurde das Album über 2,3 Millionen mal verkauft.

Hintergrund

Eigentlich wollten das Plattenlabel Roc-A-Fella Records eine Kollaborations Album für Memphis Bleek, Beanie Sigel und Freeway produzieren. Es wurde jedoch ein weiteres Jay-Z-Album, aber die Roc-A-Fella Künstler durften mitproduzieren und auch auf dem Album rappen. Gäste wie Snoop Dogg, R. Kelly und Scarface wirkten auch am Album mit. Produzenten wie Swizz Beatz, Kanye West und Timbaland, die schon das Album Vol. 2: Hard Knock Life und Vol. 3... Life and Times of S. Carter, wirkten auch an diesem Album mit. Sonstige Produzenten sind Just Blaze, Bink! and The Neptunes. Dieses Album ist das erste Album von Jay-Z, auf dem DJ Premier nicht als Produzent mitwirkt. Vom Gangsta Rap der vorherigen Alben, benutzt Jay-Z auf diesem Album eine angenehmere Variante des Rap.
