The Loco-Motion ist ein Lied von Little Eva aus dem Jahr 1962, welches von Gerry Goffin und Carole King geschrieben wurde und sich auf den Modetanz Locomotion aus den 1960er Jahren bezieht.

Geschichte

The Loco-Motion wurde am 14. Juni 1962 weltweit veröffentlicht und erzielte in vielen Ländern Erfolge. In den Vereinigten Staaten erreichte der Song Platz eins der Charts. Das Lied ist ein beliebtes und langlebiges Beispiel eines Songs des Dance-Genres, ein Großteil des Liedes ist dem Line Dance gewidmet. In der Rolling Stone-Liste der 500 beste Songs aller Zeiten erreichte der Song Platz 350.

Coverversionen

1974 veröffentlichten Grand Funk Railroad ihre Version des Liedes, welche von Todd Rundgren produziert wurde und auch in den USA ein Nummer-eins-Hit wurde.

1987 coverte Kylie Minogue das Lied und landete damit (zuerst in Australien und 1988 in Europa) einen Erfolg. Des Weiteren konnte man diese Version in der Serie Nachbarn hören.

The Loco-Motion wurde unter anderem noch von The Ventures, The Chiffons, Renate Kern, Susi Dorée, Emerson, Lake & Powell, David L. Stewart & Barbara Gaskin, Jive Bunny & The Mastermixers, Charly García, Atomic Kitten, und Fancy gecovert.
