Winner in You ist das achte Studioalbum von Patti LaBelle, das im April 1986 erschien und das wohl erfolgreichste Album LaBelles ist.

Hintergrund

Dem Album ging ein Wechsel des Labels von Philadelphia International zum Major-Label MCA Records voraus. Nach der Veröffentlichung löste das Werk das Janet-Jackson-Album Control an der Spitze der US-Alben-Charts ab und wurde seinerseits durch den Soundtrack zum Film Top Gun ersetzt, zudem erhielt es auch eine Platin-Auszeichnung. Der Erfolg der LP wurde durch das Lied On My Own, ein Duett mit Michael McDonald, gefördert. Der Song führte sowohl die Pop- als auch die R&B-Charts an.^[1]

Rezeption

Rob Wynn von Allmusic schrieb, das Album habe für LaBelle zu dem Stardasein geführt, nach dem sie seit 1977 gestrebt habe. Mit Kiss Away the Pain sei sogar eine weitere potenzielle, aber ignorierte Hitsingle enthalten gewesen. Er vergab drei von fünf Sternen.^[1]
