Strukturformel der Vinylgruppe

Als Vinylgruppe bezeichnet man in der organischen Chemie den sehr reaktionsfähigen Ethen-Rest (früher: Ethylen-Rest), also die Atomgruppe R-CH=CH2. Die systematische Bezeichnung wäre Ethenylgruppe. Bekanntestes Beispiel eines Moleküls mit einer Vinylgruppe ist das Vinylchlorid, aus welchem durch Polymerisation Polyvinylchlorid (PVC) entsteht.

Umgangssprachlich werden auch PVC und PVC-Produkte als Vinyl bezeichnet.

Der Begriff "Vinyl" stammt vom lateinischen "vinum" = Wein, aufgrund der Verwandtschaft dieser Gruppe mit dem Alkohol (in seiner ursprünglichen Bedeutung von "Ethylalkohol"). Andere Quellen beziehen sich auf : von lat. vicinus = Nachbar.
