Das Europäische Astronautenzentrum (engl. European Astronaut Centre, EAC) ist die zentrale Einrichtung der Europäischen Weltraumorganisation (ESA) für die Ausbildung von Raumfahrern. Es befindet sich auf dem Gelände des Deutschen Zentrums für Luft- und Raumfahrt (DLR) in Köln-Porz.
Im EAC trainiert unter anderem das Europäische Astronautenkorps für Weltraumeinsätze, hauptsächlich auf der Internationalen Raumstation (ISS).
Im Jahr 1990 beschloss der ESA-Ministerrat (das Gremium, in dem die Forschungsminister aller Mitgliedsländer vertreten sind und das Grundsatzentscheidungen treffen darf), dass Europa ein eigenes Astronautenkorps und eine eigene bemannte Raumfahrt benötigt. Allerdings wird (nach bisherigen Überlegungen) Europa (bzw. die ESA) kein eigenes bemanntes Startsystem entwickeln, sondern nur gemeinsam mit den US-amerikanischen Space Shuttles oder russischen Sojus-Raumschiffen starten.
Im Rahmen des Programms der ISS trainieren am EAC nicht nur europäische Astronauten, sondern auch russische, amerikanische und japanische, denn der Vertrag zum Betrieb der Station sieht vor, dass die am Projekt beteiligten Raumfahrer an allen Trainingseinrichtungen trainieren dürfen. Die wichtigsten Trainingsprogramme umfassen die Ausbildung für den Zubringer ATV und das europäische Weltraumlabor Columbus.
Im EAC befindet sich Europas tiefstes Schwimmbecken, das 17 x 22 m breit ist mit einer Tiefe von 10 m.[1] Dort werden unter schwerelosigkeitsähnlichen Bedingungen Außeneinsätze im All geprobt. Hierfür werden Modelle großer Raumstationsmodule in das Becken gelassen.
