Formannskapsdistrikt

Formannsskapsdistrikt bezeichnet eine historische politische und verwaltungstechnische Einheit in Norwegen, die per Gesetz („formannskapslovene“) am 14. Januar 1837 eingeführt wurde. Laut § 1 sollte jeder prestegjeld einen eigenen formannskapsdistrikt bilden.

Auf diese Weise wurde die kirchliche Einteilung des Landes auch zur weltlichen administrativen Gliederung. Norwegen bestand 1837 aus 373 Formannskapsdistrikten.

Ein weiteres Gesetz („matrikkelloven“) führte im Jahr 1853 die Bezeichnung Kommune (herred bzw. auf nynorsk herad) als Ersatz für formannskapsdistrikt ein.

1935 bestand Norwegen aus 682 Landkommunen (herreder) und 65 Stadtkommunen (bykommuner)[1] . Unter den Städten hatten 43 den Status als Stadt mit Marktrecht (kjøpstad) und 22 als Stadt mit Stapelrecht (ladested).

Die Unterscheidung zwischen Stadtkommunen und Landkommunen wurde mit dem Kommunengesetz (kommunelov) vom 25. September 1992 aufgehoben. [1]
