Gai yang (in Thai: ไก่ย่าง, Aussprache: [kài jâːŋ]) ist eine Art gegrilltes Hühnchen. Dieses Gericht hat seinen Ursprung im Isaan, Thailands Nordost-Provinzen, wo es Kai Ping (ไก่ปิ้ง, auch Ping Kai) genannt wird. Angeblich soll die Variation, die in der Provinz Si Saket hergestellt wird, die wohlschmeckenste sein.

Es wird normalerweise zusammen mit Klebreis (Thai: ข้าวเหนียว, Kao Niau) gegessen. Mittlerweile ist das Gericht im ganzen Lande beliebt.

Das Huhn wird vorbereitet, indem ein ganzes Hühnchen halbiert oder geviertelt wird. Das Fleisch wird anschließend aufgeklappt, flachgeklopft und mit einem Rahmen aus Bambus-Stäbchen fixiert. Vor dem Grillen wird das Fleisch für etwa 2 Stunden in eine Marinade gelegt, deren Zusammensetzung je nach Gegend und Koch variiert. Meistens ist aber Soyasauce, Fischsauce, Knoblauch, Ingwer, Korianderwurzel und schwarzem Pfeffer enthalten. Anschließend wird es auf heißer Holzkohle langsam gegart.
