Guru Gobind Singh Ji (* 22. Dezember 1666 in Patna; † 7. Oktober 1708) war der zehnte und letzte menschliche Guru des Sikhismus.

Leben

Als der neunte Guru Teg Bahadur im Jahre 1675 für den Schutz des Hinduismus von muslimischen Machthabern wie Aurangzeb hingerichtet wurde, wurde sein Kopf seinem Sohn Gobind Ray überbracht, der damals neun Jahre alt war. Dieser wurde dann am 11. November 1675 der zehnte und letzte menschliche Guru. Im Jahre 1699 begründete er die Khalsa-Bruderschaft als Folge auf die ständige Bedrängung und Verfolgung durch die Mogulherrscher.[1] Die ersten fünf von Guru Gobind Getauften werden Panj Pyare, die Fünf Geliebten, genannt. Der überlieferten Tradition gemäß wurde auch der Guru seinem Wunsch gemäß getauft und nahm den ab sofort für alle männlichen Sikhs geltenden Nachnamen Singh (Löwe) an. Er hieß fortan Guru Gobind Singh. Alle Frauen erhielten den Zunamen Kaur (Prinzessin). Kurz vor seinem Tod betonte Guru Gobind Singh, dass ausschließlich der Guru Granth Sahib, das heilige Buch mit den Versen der Gurus und der Bhagats, spirituelle Anleitung für alle Sikhs geben wird.

K - Symbolik

Kara, Kirpan und Kangha

Außerdem trugen alle getauften Sikhs fünf Symbole, die im Punjabi mit dem Buchstaben «K» beginnen[2]:

  • Ungeschnittene Haare (Kesch), Männer tragen zusätzlich einen Turban.
  • Ein hölzerner Kamm (Kangha) wird als Zeichen der Sauberkeit in den Haaren getragen.
  • Besondere Baumwollunterhosen (Kacha), sollen zur sexuellen Mäßigung beitragen.
  • Ein Stahlarmreif (Kara), erinnert an die Verpflichtung zur Wahrheit.
  • Ein Dolch (Kirpan), der Tag und Nacht getragen wird, ist das Zeichen dafür, dass die Sikhs Arme, Schwache und Unschuldige verteidigen.
