James Stewart (* um 1243; † 16. Juli 1309) war ein schottischer Adliger aus dem Haus Stuart und 5. High Stewart von Schottland.
James Stewart war der Sohn von Alexander Stewart, 4. High Steward of Scotland und dessen Gemahlin Jean Macrorie of Bute. Er folgte seinem Vater 1283 als 5. High Steward von Schottland.
James war einer der sechs Regenten Schottlands nach dem Tod König Alexanders III., stand auf Seiten von William Wallace und war später Anhänger von Robert Bruce. Er heiratete in erster Ehe Cecilia, Tochter des Patrick de Dunbar, 7. Earl of Dunbar mit der er einen Sohn hatte:
