John Robinson (Pastor)

John Robinson (* um 1575; † 16. Februar 1625 in Leiden) war ein englischer puritanischer Theologe.

Leben

Robinson wurde am Queen Elizabeth's High School in Gainsborough erzogen. 1591 studierte er Theologie und Philosophie am Trinity College in Cambridge und wurde zum Priester der Church of England geweiht. Später wurde er puritanischer Pastor in Nottinghamshire. 1608 ging er mit seinen Anhängern nach Leiden, wo er Theologie studierte. Er half bei den Vorbereitungen zur Segelfahrt (Mayflower) der Pilgerväter (1620), schloss sich ihnen aber nicht an. Robinson schrieb mehrere theologische Abhandlungen von deutlich calvinistischen Orientierung, einschließlich seiner Verteidigung der Synode von Dordrecht.
