Die Kansas City Chiefs sind ein Team der National Football League (NFL) und spielen dort in der American Football Conference (AFC), in der Western Division. Sie spielten von 1960 bis 1962 als Dallas Texans, bevor es 1963 mit dem Umzug nach Kansas City, Missouri zur Umbenennung kam.

Umzug nach Kansas City
Der Umzug der Chiefs war nicht ganz freiwillig. Als die AFL gegründet wurde, gab es mit Ausnahme der Los Angeles Rams und San Francisco 49ers kein Profiteam westlich des Mississippi River und südlich von Washington (D.C.). Dallas war damit eine attraktive Heimat eines neuen Profi Football Teams. Allerdings beschloss die NFL zur Saison 1960 die Dallas Cowboys zu gründen. Es gab Gerüchte, dass die NFL diese Erweiterung durchführte, um der jungen AFL zu schaden. Als Folge dessen haben die Texans sich nach einem neuem Markt umgesehen und sind seitdem in Kansas City beheimatet.
