Duodecim Scripta (lat.: „zwölf Linien“), auch Ludus duodecim scriptorum, war der lateinische Name für die Ur-Form des heutigen Spiels Backgammon. Es wird angenommen, dass die Römer das Spiel aus dem alt-ägyptischen Brettspiel Senet ableiteten.
Im Gegensatz zu Senet spielten die Römer das Duodecim Scripta bereits auf dem klassischen Backgammon-Brett mit jeweils 12 Linien im eigenen Spielfeld. Das Duodecim Scripta unterscheidet sich vom heutigen Backgammon im Wesentlichen dadurch, dass es mit drei Würfeln gespielt wurde und dass man die Steine des Gegners nicht schlagen konnte.
Eine Weiterentwicklung dieses Duodecim Scripta stellte das römische Spiel Tabula dar, was als direkter Vorläufer des Backgammon gilt.
Wie alle Glücksspiele, war auch Duodecim Scripta im antiken Rom offiziell verboten und durfte daher nur „privat“ gespielt werden.
