Mawlid

Mawlid an-Nabi (arabisch ‏مولد النبي‎, DMG maulid an-nabī) ist ein islamischer Feiertag zu Ehren des Geburtstages von Mohammed, dem Gründer und Propheten des Islam. Mawlid an-Nabi wird am 12. Tag des Monats Rabi' al-auwal des Islamischen Kalenders gefeiert.

Seit dem Mittelalter sind Umzüge mit Hymnen auf Mohammed an diesem Tag überliefert. Heute wird am Mawlid an-Nabi vor allem das vorbildliche Leben Muhammads sowie seine besondere gesellschaftspolitische und soziale Rolle in den Vordergrund gerückt.

Von dogmatischen Muslimen wie den Wahhabiten, den Ahl-i Hadîth oder strengen Sunniten wie den Deobandi wird diese Feier als unzulässige Neuerung (Bid'a) und als verbotene Vergötterung Mohammeds abgelehnt.[1]

Die Gegner des Mawlid an-Nabi argumentieren zusätzlich damit, dass es eine Nachahmung der Christen sei. Andere Muslime sagen, Mohammed selbst und seine Gefährten hätten bereits seinen Geburtstag besonders begangen, allerdings mit Fasten, nicht mit Festlichkeit.
