Avital Ronell

Avital Ronell (* 15. April 1952 in Prag) ist eine israelische Germanistin. Sie lehrt als Professorin für Deutsch, Vergleichende Literatur und Englisch an der New York University und an der European Graduate School in Saas-Fee in der Schweiz.[1] Als Literaturkritikerin, Feministin und Philosophin arbeitet sie in der Tradition der Dekonstruktion.

Leben

Ronell wurde in Prag als Kind israelischer Diplomaten geboren und war Performancekünstlerin, bevor sie sich akademischen Studien zuwandte. Sie studierte bei Jacob Taubes am Institut für Hermeneutik der Freien Universität Berlin, promovierte 1979 an der Princeton University und setzte dann ihre Studien bei Jacques Derrida und Hélène Cixous in Paris fort.

Avital Ronell unterrichtete Vergleichende Literatur an der University of California, Berkeley, bevor sie an die New York University wechselte, wo sie ein Forschungsprojekt zu Trauma und Gewalt leitet. Seit 2001 gehört Avital Ronell dem Lehrkörper der European Graduate School an.

In dem Dokumentarfilm Examined Life 2008[2] von Astra Taylor sowie in Derrida (2002)[3] von Kirby Dick und Amy Ziering wurde Ronell interviewt und ihre Arbeit vorgestellt.
