Badger Badger Badger

Das Badger-Phänomen beruht auf einer musikunterlegten Flashanimation von Jonti Picking, in der Dachse (engl.: Badger), Pilze und eine Schlange vorkommen. Durch den sinnlosen Text und das rhythmische Gezappel der Figuren wirkt sie durchaus hypnotisch.

Nachdem die Animation am 5. September 2003 im wöchentlichen B3ta-Newsletter veröffentlicht wurde und kurz darauf auch in verschiedensprachigen Foren, darunter auch die für ihre Flashanimationen bekannte Website Albinoblacksheep.com, auftauchte, wurde sie schnell Teil der Netzkultur, vergleichbar dem Hype um „All your base are belong to us“.

Mittlerweile weisen die Textzeilen (meistens „Badger Badger Badger“) auf den absolut dadaistischen Inhalt des darauffolgenden Postings hin.

Es wurden diesem Phänomen bereits ein Artikel auf der Internetseite „EbaumsWorld“ und einige Folgen der Comic-Serie „User Friendly“ gewidmet. Außerdem wurde die originale Animation mittlerweile in vielerlei Hinsicht neu verarbeitet und sogar von Fans nachgespielt.

In dem MMORPG Dark Age of Camelot wird dieses Lied mittlerweile im Ladebildschirm als „Tipp“ zitiert. Außerdem ist es möglich, einige der im Spiel vorkommenden Dachse mit „Badger Badger Badger“ anzusprechen, worauf diese mit „Mushroom… MUSHROOM!!!“ oder „Snaaaaake… a snake!“ antworten.
