Das Jazz-Festival Umbria Jazz (UJ) findet seit 1973 jährlich im Juli an zehn Tagen in Perugia statt und ist eines der wichtigsten europäischen Jazz-Festivals. Erster künstlerischer Leiter war Alberto Alberti. 2001 hatte es 200.000 Besucher. Neben Jazz treten auch Rock-, Pop-, Weltmusik- und Bluesmusiker auf wie Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, James Brown, Alicia Keys und Sting. Schon in den 1970er Jahren spielten hier Jazz-Größen wie Miles Davis, Count Basie, Dizzy Gillespie (1976), Herbie Hancock, Enrico Rava und Lionel Hampton. Weiter traten u.a. Gil Evans, Charles Mingus, Sarah Vaughan, Stan Getz und Keith Jarrett auf dem Festival auf.

Im Sommer finden seit 1986 auch die Umbria Jazz Clinics in Zusammenarbeit mit der Berklee School of Music statt.

Ende Dezember/Anfang Januar fand eine Winter-Ausgabe des Festivals in Orvieto statt.
