Die Atomic Energy Commission (Abkürzung AEC) wurde 1946 gegründet und war bis 1974 Ansprechpartner für die Forschung und Entwicklung der Nutzbarmachung atomarer Energie (hauptsächlich in Bezug auf Kernwaffen). In Friedenszeiten ist sie eher als Kontroll- und Regulierungsbehörde zu verstehen. Ihre Aufgaben wurden ab 1977 auf das Energieministerium der Vereinigten Staaten übertragen.
