William H. Gerdts

William H. Gerdts (* 1929 in Jersey City, New Jersey) ist ein US-amerikanischer Kunstkritiker und war Professor für Kunstgeschichte, amerikanische Malerei und Skulptur bis 1999 an der University of Maryland. Er war außerdem als Kurator für Kunst am Museum in Norfolk, Virginia, und in Newark, New Jersey, sowie Galerieleiter an der University of Maryland und Vizepräsident der Coe Kerr Gallery in New York City tätig.

Gerdts hat 1966 an der Harvard University promoviert, 1971 wurde er Mitglied des Brooklyn College und des The Graduate Center (CUNY). Gastprofessuren hatte er an der Johns Hopkins University, der Rutgers University und der Washington University, er ist Mitglied der Guggenheim Foundation und der American Philosophical Society. 1992 erhielt er die Ehrendoktorwürde am Amherst College und 1996 an der Universität in Syrakus. 1999 wurde Gerdts emeritiert.
