Youth of Today war eine US-amerikanische Hardcoreband aus New York City.

Bandgeschichte

Youth of Today wurde im Jahr 1985 von Mitgliedern der New York Hardcore-Band Violent Children Ray Cappo (Gesang), John “Porcell” Porcelly (Gitarre) gegründet, als die ursprünglichen Hardcore-Straight-Edge-Bands wie Minor Threat, SSD oder DYS bereits zerfallen waren und lösten so die zweite Welle und den Zenit von Straight Edge im Jahr 1988 aus. Youth of Today führte mit dem Song "No More" als Erste eine vegetarische Lebenshaltung als Teil von Straight Edge ein. Die Band löste sich 1990 auf. 2004 gaben sie ein kurzes Revival, um dann wieder für fünf Jahre getrennte Wege zu gehen. Seit 2010 existieren sie nun wieder offiziell und sind 2011 auf Tour (u.A. in Schweden, den USA und Deutschland (Sucks'n'Summer)).

Name

Die Band benannte sich nach einem gleichnamigen Abused-Song und Auszügen aus einem Song von den Avengers. Eine andere Version der Namensfindung steht auf der Myspace-Seite von YOT: "Cause For Alarm mentioned this in their lyrics, "Youth of today can be the tool." That was our inspiration for the name."!
