Bob Douglas

Robert L. "Bob" Douglas (* 4. November 1882 auf St. Kitts; † 16. Juli 1979 in New York City) war ein afroamerikanischer Sportmanager und Gründer der New York Renaissance. Er gilt als "Vater des schwarzen Profibasketballs". Douglas war zwischen 1922 und 1949 Besitzer und Trainer der New York Renaissance. Unter seiner Führung gewannen die Rens 1932/33 die Rekordserie von 88 Spielen in Folge, außerdem den Titel des World Professional Tournaments 1939. Insgesamt verbuchten die Rens in Douglas' Ära über 2500 Siege. Als Trainer beeinflusste Douglas die künftigen Mitglieder der Basketball Hall of Fame Charles T. Cooper und William "Pop" Gates maßgeblich.[1]

Am 20. April 1972 wurde Douglas als "Förderer" (englisch : contributor) in die Basketball Hall of Fame aufgenommen.
