Dave Smalley ist ein US-amerikanischer Sänger und Gitarrist, der in verschiedenen Bands aktiv war beziehungsweise ist.

Leben

Dave Smalley erwarb einen Bachelorabschluss am Boston College und einen Master in Politik an der California State University, Los Angeles. Er arbeitete eine zeitlang als Lehrer.[1] Heute lebt er in Fredericksburg, Virginia, wo er unter anderem für The Free Lance–Star, eine Tageszeitung der Stadt schreibt.[2]

1983 gründete Smalley die Band DYS, die für die Bostoner Straight-Edge-Szene von entscheidender Bedeutung war.Danach folgte zunächst die Post-Hardcore-Band Dag Nasty, danach die Punkband ALL und schließlich 1989 Down By Law. Smalley tritt auch solo als Singer-Songwriter auf.[3]

Dave Smalley ist heute nicht mehr „straight edge“.[3] Smalley zählt heute zu den eher konservativ orientierten Punkmusikern.[4]
