HMS Gurkha

Fünf Schiffe der Royal Navy trugen den Namen HMS Gurkha bzw. HMS Ghurka nach dem nepalesischen Volksstamm der Gurkha, dessen Angehörige als Elitesoldaten in der britischen Armee dienen.

  • Die erste Torpedoboot, das 1888 vom Stapel lief, 1901 die Nummer 101 erhielt und 1920 verkauft wurde.
  • Die zweite HMS Ghurka war ein Zerstörer der ersten Tribal-Klasse, der 1907 in Dienst gestellt wurde. Er sank 1917, als er vor Dungeness auf eine deutsche Mine lief.
  • Die dritte HMS Gurkha war ein Zerstörer der zweiten Tribal-Klasse, der 1937 vom Stapel lief und 1940 durch einen deutschen Luftangriff südwestlich von Bergen versenkt wurde.
  • Die vierte L-Klasse, der ursprünglich HMS Larne hieß und 1940 umbenannt wurde. Er wurde 1942 versenkt.
  • Die fünfte Fregatte der dritten Tribal-Klasse, die von der Royal Navy 1984 außer Dienst gestellt und an Indonesien verkauft wurde, wo sie als Wilhelmus Zakarias Yohannes bis 1999 eingesetzt wurde.
