Séamus Hegarty

Séamus Hegarty (* 26. Januar 1940 in Kilcar, County Donegal) ist ein römisch-katholischer Bischof in Irland.

Leben

Hegarty besuchte in Kilcar die National School und danach das St Eunan's College in Letterkenny. Er studierte am St Patrick's College in Maynooth römisch-katholische Theologie.

Hegarty wurde 1983 zum römisch-katholischen Priester ordiniert. Er unterrichtete an der Colaiste na Croise Naofa, Falcarragh, wo er von 1971 bis 1981 Präsident war. 1982 wurde Hegarty zum Bischof des Bistums Raphoe ernannt. ^[1] Am 1. Oktober 1994 wechselte Hegarty als Bischof zum Bistum Derry. Sein Vorgänger in Derry war Bischof Edward Daly.
