James Ogilvy, 4. Earl of Findlater und 1. Earl of Seafield (* 11. Juli 1664; † 19. August 1730) war ein schottischer Politiker und Lordkanzler von Schottland.
Er war der Sohn von James Ogilvy, 3. Earl of Findlater und Lady Anne Montgomerie. Am 24. Juni 1701 wurde er zum 1. Earl of Seafield[1] ernannt. Von 1713 bis 1714 war er der Siegelbewahrer von Schottland. Er wurde zweimal zum Lordkanzler von Schottland berufen, das erste Mal von 1702 bis 1704 und dann wieder von 1705 bis zur Union mit England im Jahre 1707[2]. Nach dem Tod seines Vaters im Jahre 1711 erbte er den Titel Earl of Findlater.
1687 heiratete er Anne Dunbar, Tochter des Sir William Dunbar. Mit ihr hatte er drei Kinder, von denen sein einziger Sohn seine Titel erbte:
- James Ogilvy († 1. Juli 1764), 5. Earl of Findlater, 2. Earl of Seafield;
- Elizabeth Ogilvy (* um 1692; † 24. September 1778), ∞ 1710 Charles Maitland, 6. Earl of Lauderdale;
- Janet Ogilvy (* um 1695; † 25. Dezember 1720), ∞ I) 1716 Hugh Forbes of Craigievar, ∞ II) 1719 William Duff, 1. Earl Fife.
