Der Ort ist aus mehreren Siedlungskernen zusammengesetzt (Sheldon, Sheldon Junction, Sheldon Springs, East Sheldon sowie einige kleinere Ortsteile), die meistenteils entlang dem Missisquoi River liegen. Der Volkszählung von 2000 zufolge hat Sheldon 1990 Einwohner.
Die nächstgrößere Ortschaft im Westen ist Swanton (ca. 10 km), im Osten Enosburgh (ca. 8 km). Über den Interstate 89 bei Swanton und den Franklin County State Airport, ebenfalls bei Swanton, ist Sheldon an die Fernverkehrssysteme der Vereinigten Staaten angeschlossen.
Sheldon verfügt über eine eigene Grundschule, nicht aber über weiterführende Schulen.
Vor Ort sind drei religiöse Gruppen vertreten: die Episkopalen, die Methodisten sowie eine römisch-katholische Kirche.
