The Beginning ist das sechste Studioalbum der US-amerikanischen Hip-Hop-Gruppe The Black Eyed Peas. Es erschien am 26. November 2010. Dieses Album ist ähnlich wie der Vorgänger The E.N.D. vom House-Stil geprägt.

Entstehung und Veröffentlichung

In einem Interview gab die Band am 6. Juni 2010 bekannt, dass sie an einem neuen Album arbeitet. Es wurde als Fortführung des Albums The E.N.D. beschrieben. Der Albumtitel stehe symbolisch dafür, neue Technologien zu übernehmen, etwa künstliche Realitäten, 3D und „360 Video“. Es ginge auch darum, experimentell zu sein und mit „verrückten, kranken Beats“ herumzuspielen.^[1] Die offizielle Ankündigung der Platte erfolgte am 26. Oktober 2010. ^[2] Als erste Single wurde The Time (Dirty Bit) ausgekoppelt, die gleich Platz 1 der Media-Control-Charts erreichte. Am 18. Februar 2011 wurde die zweite Singleauskoppelung, Just Can't Get Enough, veröffentlicht. Das zugehörige Musikvideo wurde in Tokio nur eine Woche vor dem Tōhoku-Erdbeben gedreht und enthält eine Widmung an alle Menschen in Japan.^[3] Es wurde am 16. März 2011 veröffentlicht. Dritte Single wurde Don't Stop the Party, die allerdings nicht an den Erfolg der Vorgänger anknüpfen konnte. Außerdem wurde in Ländern wie Frankreich, Belgien, Schweiz und Österreich der Song Whenever als digitale Single veröffentlicht. ^[4]

Kritik

Das Album musste von vielen aber auch heftige Kritik einstecken. Die Seite Metacritic vergab nur 47 von 100 Punkten ^[6] und auch das Unternehmen Allmusic vergab nur Sterne. ^[7] Computerbild bezeichnete das Album als eine Enttäuschung und Hit-Recycling. ^[8]
