Thomas Steven Molnar

Thomas Steven Molnar, ungar. Molnár Tamás István (* 26. Juli 1921 in Budapest; † 20. Juli 2010 in Richmond (Virginia), USA^[1]) war ein katholischer Philosoph, Historiker und politischer Theoretiker.

Leben

Molnar war das einzige Kind von Molnár Sándor und Blon Aranka. Er studierte von 1944 bis 1948 zunächst an der Universität Brüssel in Belgien und wechselte im Anschluss an die Columbia University nach New York City, wo er sich 1952 zum Ph.D. in Philosophie und Geschichte promovierte. Von 1957 bis 1967 lehrte er am Brooklyn College. Danach war er als Professor tätig an der Long Island University (1967), an der Universität in Potchefstroom in Südafrika (1969), am Hillsdale College (Michigan) (1973-74), Yale University (1983), Universität von Mendoza (Argentinien).

Nach der politischen Wende in Ungarn war er auch Gastprofessor für Religionswissenschaften an der Universität Budapest, lehrte an der Katholischen Péter-Pázmány-Universität und war seit 1995 Mitglied der Ungarischen Akademie der Künste (hu).

Als Autor von über 40 Büchern und Artikeln in französischer und englischer Sprache publizierte er zu einer Vielzahl von Themen im Bereich Religion, Politik und Erziehung.

Molnar äußerte sich, dass er von Russell Kirks The Conservative Mind inspiriert worden sei.

Molnar war verheiratet und hat einen Sohn.
